Passover is quickly approaching. Monday night we will be eating matzah, a ton of eggs and potatoes. In preparation we clean out all the chametz - this includes all bread products and anything that is not specifically kosher for passover. To accomplish this, I spend days cleaning out our freezers, refrigerators, and cabinets. I chuck anything that is half open or expired. This year I actually checked every expiration date on our canned goods to make sure I wasn't keeping anything that was past due. When I am knee deep in crumbs and expired food it sucks. But when I have the clean shelves and crumb free couch pieces - I wonder why I don't do this more often. I am really going to try to buy less frozen food and canned goods - to avoid having so much wasted food!
